Cheesman Canyon

So, I road into Deckers to talk to my buddies at Flies ‘n Lies. The word was that sippers were taking parachute adams off the top. I decided to head into the canyon for the first time in a few months, and there I found plenty of rainbows and browns all over the water. They were easily spooked, so it was all about the stealth mode, but I landed several and hooked a lot more. A few on the adams, but more off RS2′s and Juju Beas. Beautiful day, and I’m glad I took the hike in for the scenery.

As for the people, I always get a mix. Stopped and talk to an older retired man who was just sitting on a rock watching trout feed. We probably talked for 30 minutes before moving on. Great guy, and had plenty of stories about how Cheesman was before the fire. He actually gave me a few flies he tied, and I caught a fish on one just minutes after we went our own ways.

The other side of anglers always come out on this river, though. I just happened to be tip-tapping around another guy fishing the straight, and he just turned around and said “I’m fishing here”. Alright bro – take it easy – just checking things out and passing through. I wish I could have offered him some advice on his casting and tanglings, but I just mumbled to myself, “good luck”.
